The details have been set for Roy Harper's return to Arrow. The wayward sidekick will be making his way back to Arrow in season 6 for a short arc that promises to have big ramifications. While the season 6 appearance(s) won't be the first for Colton Haynes since exiting the series in season 3, it does seem like it will be the most significant one yet --especially in terms of how it will relate to Roy's one-time love, Thea Queen.

How Arrow Can Get Fans Back on Felicity's Side>>>

According to TVLine, Roy will begin his short return to Arrow on episode 15 of season 6. When the show returns from its winter break, it will be on episode 10. So the wait for Roy won't be very long at all.

Arrow showrunners and executive producers Marc Guggenheim and Wendy Mericle issued a joint statement about the casting. They said, "We're thrilled to announce that Colton Haynes will be reprising his role as Roy Harper. Roy is called back to Star City to help resolve an urgent matter with high stakes for the team. His short visit turns into something surprising, when he reunites with Thea and sparks a change in both of their lives that will have long-lasting consequences..."

The fact that Roy will be back is not too surprising. Colton Haynes teased his return earlier this year and there have been several references to Roy in season 6. It's likely that Roy will be dealing with the current break-up of Team Arrow and/or the investigation Oliver is under as the Green Arrow. Perhaps agent Samanda Watson will find wherever Roy has been hiding since season 4 and drag him into the investigation. Even that would be expected, however.

It is the hint that Roy's return will have a lasting influence on Thea that is maybe the most exciting part of the announcements. Though Thea has been given several love interests since Roy, none of them have worked out well. Thea and Roy have had one of the more tragic love stories on Arrow and it's likely, given his return is only temporary, that things will get even worse.

There's a couple possibilities. "Life-changing consequences" suggests that the impact will go far beyond Roy's return. Perhaps the reunion will lead to Thea getting pregnant, only for Roy to have to go on the run again. However, it's more likely that Roy's return will put the end to his relationship with Thea altogether.

In the comics, one of Roy's most important love interests was the villain/anti-hero Cheshire. Eventually the two end up having a daughter together, Lian. It's possible, given the way that Arrow uses and twists comic book mythology, that when Roy returns he will be preparing for fatherhood or already experiencing it with Cheshire and Lian. Roy might not have a baby with Thea, but he'll likely be having a baby. This especially likely considering how much of Arrow season 6 has revolved around fatherhood, concerning Oliver and other characters.

Of course, the much more tragic options of Roy dying or being really imprisoned are always open. Yet given Arrow's penchant for heartbreak, the chances are good that Thea's reunion with Roy will be high in drama and angst. Roy will still be alive but separated from Thea in one way or another.

But what do you think? What are your theories on Roy's return? Are you happy Colton Haynes is coming back to Arrow? Should it be more than a quick arc?
