The Supernatural season 12 finale featured plenty of death, but also an unexpected and pleasant return. And given the show’s big cliffhangers, the door is definitely open for him to return.

In the finale, major characters like Rowena, Crowley and even Castiel were all killed off. But thanks to Lucifer’s baby causing a tear in space and time, a new universe opened up where Bobby is still alive.

The 12 Best Moments from Supernatural Season 12>>>

The parallel universe, aka Apocalypse World, is a hellscape imagining a world where Sam and Dean were never born and never saved the world. Now angels and demons are waging an apocalyptic war on Earth, with the few surviving humans caught in the middle.

Season 12 ended with Mary and Lucifer being trapped in the Apocalypse World, so it’s safe to assume that we’ll be seeing more of it in season 13. And since the alternate version of Bobby, a grizzled survivor with an angel-killing machine gun named Rufus, is still alive, we could see more of him.

And I hope we do. When Bobby was killed off in season 7, it left a hole in the Winchester family. Sure, Jim Beaver has returned to the role at least once every season since (either as a hallucination or himself in Hell or Heaven). But the new universe means Bobby could theoretically rejoin the show full-time, only as a different version.

Since the show killed off so many supporting characters, bringing Jim Beaver’s Bobby back on a more permanent basis would help fill in those gaps. And giving him the opportunity to play a completely different character, one who has his own mysterious and dangerous backstory and who has never experienced the real world, would offer plenty of storytelling options.

The Apocalypse World was a fascinating new addition to the Supernatural universe, one that will hopefully be explored in more depth for season 13. And keeping Bobby around would be the best way to do it.

It’s also nothing new for the CW. In the Fall the show will be paired once again with Arrow, which is doing this exact thing next year. Katie Cassidy, whose Laurel Lance died, is returning to the show as a series regular, though this time as Black Siren, her doppelganger from Earth-2. Why not let Supernatural do the same thing with Jim Beaver as Bobby?

Do you want the Apocalypse World’s Bobby to join Supernatural as a series regular for season 13? Whether or not it will happen is something we’ll have to wait to find out, but Supernatural will return in the Fall, Thursdays at 8/7c on the CW.
