Ben Higgins is gradually getting back in the dating game. The former Bachelor star broke up with fiancee Lauren Bushnell in May but is now ready to find love again.

“It took me a long time to readjust and refocus,” he told People. “But I’m ready to be in a relationship again.”

Though one might think that dating comes naturally for Higgins, who once competed against 25 men for Kaitlyn Bristowe on The Bachelorette season 11 and who dated 28 women as the star of The Bachelor season 20, he admits he is still adjusting to being single. But five months after calling it quits with Bushnell, who is already in a new relationship, he’s very much looking forward to finding someone too.

“It feels weird,” he said. “I’m not very good at dating. I’m not used to it! I haven’t dated in three years other than on the show. And for a while, it felt like I was cheating [on Lauren]. Then I realized, this is completely acceptable. There is a switch I had to make. But I really want to find somebody, and I hope in the near future there will be someone to show off.”

“She’s moved on,” he said of Bushnell, who has been dating Devin Antin since July. “I want to respect that.”

“There are things I wish we could have confronted early on,” he said of his breakup with Bushnell. “We were trying to navigate our relationship and be partners to each other, and I just don’t think the partnership worked.”

Higgins and Bushnell met and got engaged on The Bachelor season 20. The pair starred in their own spin-off on Freeform but eventually called it quits. “It is with heavy hearts that we announce our decision to go our separate ways,” the couple said in a statement in May. “We feel fortunate for the time we had together, and will remain friends with much love and respect for one another. We wish nothing but the best for each other, and ask for your support and understanding at this time.”
