Following the all-out war against the Saviors in the first half of season 8, The Walking Dead
with chaos and the devastating effects of the war -- beginning with the mid-season premiere, which is expected to be the most heartbreaking episode thus far as fans bid farewell to a beloved character who has been with the series since the beginning. Despite the inevitable death, it looks like the second half of season 8 will be all about "The Last Stand."

Based on the key art released by AMC, fans can expect a bolder Rick as he rises from the ashes and goes on a path of vengeance, along with allies Michonne and Daryl.
In another key art, Rick is seen in what appears to be a final battle against Negan. The question is: Who will be the last man standing?
Picking up right after "How It's Gotta Be," in which Alexandria was burning to the ground, the Kingdom was shattered and Carl was revealed to have been bitten by a walker, the yet-to-be-titled mid-season premiere, which will run for 82 minutes instead of the usual 60, will focus on Carl's final moments and his relationship with his father Rick, as well as his surrogate mother Michonne.
"All of the back eight is this terrible death," Andrew Lincoln, who plays Rick, told ComicBook.com
. "This emotion is unending throughout the whole cast and, I think, it's palpable. The cost of this battle is much more full because of what happened."
While Rick is forced to deal with the devastating loss, Aaron and Enid find themselves in a dreadful situation, not knowing whether they can trust the people at Oceanside. Father Gabriel will be on a mission to bring Dr. Carson safely back to the Hilltop as a pregnant Maggie struggles with her morals and convictions.
Meanwhile, conflict remains at the Santuary. As Negan deals with traitors, Eugene's loyalty is tested continously.
