The Pearsons are in high spirits as Jack makes a surprise announcement on the winter premiere of This Is Us but, as expected, not everything about “The Fifth Wheel” is jolly.

In the flashback clip, which was first reported by TV Line, Jack heads home to announce that the family is going on vacation — without consulting Rebecca first. Though the news caught Rebecca by surprise, it didn’t take long for everyone to get on board with the idea.

On the other hand, the Pearsons will also deal with the fallout of Kevin’s addiction. According to executive producer Isaac Aptake, there’s a scene in which everyone comes together in the same room for Kevin, who hit rock bottom following his DUI arrest.

“It’s one of our most ambitious in terms of there’s a full act that plays out almost like a one-act play,” Aptaker told Entertainment Weekly. “[We are] not using some of our fancier types of flashing around and montage and beautiful photography but really just letting [the characters] act and hash out what’s happened over these last few episodes.”

The scene will depict how the family will “sort out how to best be there for their brother and son,” Aptaker added, “and in a really, really explosive and ambitious way, playing out a lot of their family drama in this 11-page, nonstop, tour de force scene.”

In other news, This Is Us star Sterling K. Brown recently made history with his Golden Globe TV Drama Actor award, becoming the first black actor to take the category. In his speech, Brown, who plays Randall Pearson, thanked his wife and their children, and gave a special shout-out to the show’s creator and writer, Dan Fogelman.

“Dan Fogelman, throughout the majority of my career, I have benefited from colorblind casting, which means, you know what, hey, let’s throw a brother in this role. Right? It’s always really cool,” he said. “But Dan Fogelman, you wrote a role for a black man that could only be played by a black man. What I appreciate so much about this is that I’m being seen for who I am and being appreciated for who I am. And it makes it that much more difficult to dismiss me, or dismiss anybody who looks like me.”

Brown says the trophy is going in the garage but it’s not necessarily a bad thing.

“I have a display case. It’s like a man-cave of sorts. It’s cool,” Brown told People, before gushing about the cast. “I get nothing but love and support from each and every one of my cast mates and it’s a joy to give it right back to them.”

Thank you! #ThisIsUs #GoldenGlobes
